Winter Stodge – Shepherds Pie
I know it seems like teaching granny to suck eggs but a few of my friends are still domestic goddesses in training. So this is aimed at those.
In a pan soften an onion, clove of crushed garlic, grated carrot and some chopped mushrooms. Add 250g of lean beef/lamb mince and cook thoroughly. Add some mixed green herbs, thyme, salt and pepper. A squirt of passata and some worcestershire sauce. Make up some instant gravy (thick) in a jug and pour into the mixture. Simmer and reduce. Meanwhile peel and boil some potatoes. Then mash with some milk and butter.
In a bakeproof dish, layer the mince mixture, then add the mash. Cook for 20 minutes at 200 degrees. Optional: During the last 5 minutes of cooking add some grated cheese.
