In An Attempt To Overthrow Dolmio.

Dolmio really upsets me. You know, ‘it’s a dolmio day’ aka ‘really bad pasta sauce day ‘. I just can’t get my head around why anyone would want to buy this stuff. It’s quicker, cheaper and 100% nicer to make your own ragu with or without meat.

Basic Sauce Recipe

One diced onion
2 cloves of crushed garlic
Chopped tomatoes
Passata
Mixed green herbs
S+P
1/2 tsp sugar

Soften the onion and garlic in a pan. Add a can of chopped tomatoes and a squirt of passata. Bring to simmer. Add mixed herbs, salt and pepper and a tsp of sugar. Cook down until a rich consistency.

Basic Bolognese Recipe

One diced onion

Grated carrot
Mushrooms
Lean steak mince
Chopped tomatoes
Passata
Mixed green herbs
S+P
1/2 tsp sugar

Soften the onion and garlic in a pan. Add grated carrot and mushrooms. Add the mince and brown.  Add a can of chopped tomatoes and a squirt of passata. Bring to simmer. Add mixed herbs, salt and pepper and a tsp of sugar. You can also add a cheeky glug of red wine at this point. Cook down until a rich consistency.
